Philox comes from the Greek philoxenia, or “love of the stranger.”
Cousin to the English hospitality, the word reflects our belief that books are spaces for hosting. The best books welcome. They tend to a reader’s humanity, even as they challenge and inspire and enthrall.
Philoxenia is also a way of living, of receiving strangers as guests and seeking commonality.
At Philox Press, we publish books and longform stories embodying the ideals of welcome that have stood above civilizations for millennia: love of stranger, hospitium, diyafah—call it what you will.
We specialize in timeless upmarket fiction (page-turners with a literary bent) and excellent narrative nonfiction.
We’re coming soon with our debut title in fall 2026 or early 2027.
